about dr kerry aston
Dr Kerry Aston is a Consultant Rheumatologist with over 15 years of medical experience. Her work focuses on helping patients understand and address the underlying factors contributing to complex or persistent health problems.
Through her clinical practice, Dr Aston combines conventional rheumatology with a broader understanding of lifestyle, nutrition, movement and environmental influences on health. She works with patients experiencing autoimmune disease, joint pain, fatigue, hormonal changes and other chronic conditions that often require a more comprehensive approach.
Dr Aston is particularly interested in the interaction between inflammation, hormones, metabolism and long-term health.
Dr Aston trained in medicine and later specialised in rheumatology, working within hospital and specialist clinical settings where she developed extensive experience managing autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
During her career she recognised that many patients with chronic symptoms were seeking a deeper understanding of the factors influencing their health beyond standard medical investigations. This led her to further training in lifestyle and nutrition-based approaches to health and disease.
Dr Aston has completed advanced training in Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine, allowing her to integrate conventional medical knowledge with a broader understanding of how diet, lifestyle, environment and metabolism influence long-term health.
Dr Aston’s work focuses on several key areas:
• Autoimmune and inflammatory diseases
• Joint pain and musculoskeletal conditions
• Women’s health, including perimenopause and hormonal change
• Chronic fatigue and persistent unexplained symptoms
• Gut health and inflammation
• Metabolic health and energy regulation
She also has a strong interest in sports medicine and female health and performance, supporting active individuals and athletes in understanding how factors such as training, recovery, nutrition and hormonal health influence performance and wellbeing.
Philosophy of Care
Dr Aston believes that effective healthcare requires understanding the full picture of a patient’s health. Symptoms such as fatigue, pain, hormonal disruption or digestive issues are often influenced by multiple factors including inflammation, nutrition, lifestyle and stress.
Her approach focuses on identifying and addressing these contributing factors while maintaining the rigour and safety of conventional medical practice.
By combining medical expertise with a broader perspective on health, Dr Aston aims to help patients better understand their bodies and develop sustainable strategies to support long-term wellbeing.
